That was the other question! The lady that sold them to me told me they were platys, but I had never seen them that color before! Here are the other ones. (wow are fish hard to get pictures of!! I have bettas who are nice and slow, but these guys are tiny and fast!!!) Sorry for such blurry pics.

Only One Haze

First two look to be both females, and in the first pic of the mickey mouse platys the one on top looks like a male and the other a female.

Edit: If the first two are Platy they are awesome looking. Have never seen that coloration before. Almost looks like the coloration on some Goldfish.

Those bottom pix look like Platy. The other look like Dalmation Molly. But don't listen to me, my only livebearer experience is breeding them for Angelfish food. I know there are more knowledgeable people here!

Also, its all in the anal fin. Females will have fan shaped, males with have little 'strings' called gonopodium.

I'm with Mina, all fish pictured are females. Dalmation molly in first post, Platy in second.

Thank you for your replies! Looks like the 'speckled platys' are going back to the school farm since I hadn't been planning on keeping any brackish fish! Will pick up a few more real platys and let the lady know that they are in fact mollies to prevent her from selling them as platys again!! Thanks for the help!

Molly do not "need" brackish; in hard water they will be fine. no different that any livebearer, all need medium hard or harder water with a pH above 7.

You know, those might be Platy. Platy and molly will cross-breed, and I came across one aquarist who successfully bred dalmation molly with some Platy and got speckled offspring. Not sure what they might be called though..."polly" maybe?
