have had BBA in my tank for a long time, small area in my wood and a few rocks, decieded to treat it with EXCELL, this is the 3rd day of treatment, an the BBA has turned red...any ideas what I'm goin to be up against, in the next few days, or the next week ?? thanks for your help..... this is a picture from 2 weeks ago....

Have no good advise for you, would assume the color change is due to it dieing out!? (Hopefully)

Thanks, It was never a real problem. dosed it with EXCELL...taking it day by day....

Excel is a plant nutrient additive that has been known to kill some types of algae..........Never used it myself for such things so i cant comment on its relability.


Lionhead, is their any chance of removing the piece of wood and just boiling it to kill the bba?............Just a thought, i know sometimes trying to remove something in the tank can be a daunting task, especially if its been their for awhile.......BTW, your discus are stunning!

I'd rather not boil the wood, if anything I'd take it out and take it in the tub and scrub it with a clean brush (these hard bristle one's) that oughta get that stuff knocked right off.

Excel is a liquid co2 product by seachem. Some people overdose their tank with it to kill of certain types of algae.

Your trumpets seem to be interested in it, are they grazing the algae?

Lastly there is an algae eater called the Siamese Algae Eater that does eat BBA. Just in case you were looking for a cheaper solution, Excel costs add up.
