Book recomendations?

Any recomendations on good "freshwater aquarium keeping" books?
Just trying to read up and learn as much as possible...........

I have several, but one I really recommend is '500 Freshwater Aquarium Fish'. Has almost every type of fish and most of the specie variants - well, what's available widely in the hobby anyways. Very useful when deciding on livestock - it's like having an LFS in your hands. Contains detailed info on each fish, as well as photo(s) for each type.

I still think though magazines, forums and other websites are still better than books. Books, on a later date, get outdated and the information may still be lacking or insufficient. Besides, some books may be erroneous and I have not even read a single one that says about cycling a fish and how this should be done other than the water parameters themselves.

I referred to the magazines because several magazines that we know often release issues monthly with more updates whereas a book is simply compilation of information and nothing more is added to it once published. Tropical Fish Hobbyist (USA), Practical Fishkeeping (UK) and several others receive positive reviews for up-to-date articles. There is always a new single species of fish discovered every week. Authors there also relate their experiences about the fish.

As for forums, you get to interact with several people and able to relate their experiences to you so you get the idea of what is the general consensus and what else you need to know. The websites, if updated from time to time, are just as reliable though most tank size mentioned for a fish is either misleading or exaggerating.

The picture for "how to feed your tropical fish naturally" is so sick! Books are pricey but I think I trust them more then the internet. So long as they aren't really old as Lupin mentioned. I trust forums, well yeah obviously as I have learned pretty much everything I know/ will need to know from this forum on how to keep tropical fish. I only have one book 'Tropical Fish A Complete Pet Owner's Manual' At just under ten dollars and a measly 60 pages, I don't think its too good of a book. It does mention cycling the tank... Well kind of, it says "breaking in" and doesn't go into great detail about it. I want a huge like 500 page book all on keeping fish. I probably won't read it all but it'll be handy to have.

I got the Sera guides for free. They still offer good information despite referring much on their products. I spend a lot of time every Saturday reading every fish book in bookstores so I don't have to buy everything I can find.;)

I was able to pick up a couple of those books used on Amazon, like $13 for 3 of them............plus shipping..........

A magazine subscription is also a wise move. I don't subscribe, I more or less just purchase the issues monthly if they seem worth it after a quick browse at my LFS.

I really like "500 Freshwater Fish" as well. It's probably my favorite book to own, not just read.

"A Commonsense Guide to Fish Health" is a nice one to have around as well.

I've had good luck finding cheap used books on Ebay and Amazon.
