Which is a better aquarium Deal?

I was still a little unsure. I went to many goodwills and salvation army and wasn't lucky enough to pick one up. However, I later was able to make a final decision with the help of my boyfriend. My wonderful boyfriend found me a free 10 gallon fish tank. :) With the money I had saved, I invested on a 30-gallon Aquaclear filter that cycles 125 gph. I have not bought a hood yet...but might plan on buying one from Walmart. My boyfriends said they were less than $30.

Which brings to my next question, would having a hood or not make a big difference?

Well, that depends. A lot of fish are "jumpers" and need to be kept covered. If you want a planted tank you'll need a hood to house the lighting. What fish are you considering, do you want to go planted??

I currently have baby Oriental Goldfish in the tank with a few bamboos. I plan on upgrading to bigger tank or pond later though. As of now, I just have secured desk lamp that shines on the tank. It's kinda hard to explain how it's like. I'm a bit on budget as I spent it on the filter and substrate. So, I don't want to buy it now, if it's not necessary. So, is the hood necessary?

I don't *think* Goldfish jump but someone else experienced in the ways of Goldfish should confirm.

Well, bamboo won't survive if they're totally submersed. The top of the plant has to be above the water, so if you want to keep bamboo that might prevent you from having a hood. I'm not sure if Goldfish will jump (I'd be inclined to think that the fancies aren't jumpers but comets/shubunkins might be) so that could be a problem.
