Before and After shots

I just redid the substrate in my 29g tank last night and I thought it would be a cool idea if we could post before and after shots of our tanks after major changes. This could be substrate change, decoration change, rearranging, etc. Anything that caused your tank to look different than it did before.

I'll start us off. The first picture is my before shot, I had mostly flourite substrate and a lot of beginner plants. This was my first planted tank ever so I sort of just threw everything in there and went with it. I got rid of a lot of the plants and kept some of my old ones. I am really amazed at the difference in color and behavior with a dark substrate/sand.

My blue tetras are bluer than they have ever been, and my cory's actually come out in the day!! They always hid unless it was feeding time. Its so nice to see them out and playing.

The one thing I am concerned with is my otos. I did a major clean on the glass, and since a lot of the plants are new Im worried about them finding enough food..has anyone had any experience with new substrate/plants and otos?

Your tank in the after shots look great! I love the change you did. What is the plant in the before shot that is floating on the surface? I don't think I've seen that one before.

@aunt kymmie that is water lettuce! It's really pretty but it grows soooo fast. I was throwing it away bi-weekly.

I don't want to be 'a stick in the mud' but I think they both look good - but I'm a fan of the natural gravel look and an aquascape that looks very natural. (Byron's tanks get double thumbs up!)
(I have to stay quiet when I see tanks with wacky gravel colors and bizarre carnival decor) - it's all about personal preference.

I like them both, Jbrofish8. I can't say one is better than the other.
