Bala Shark

We have a 72 gallon tank with different types of fish. Yesterday, when I started to feed them, I noticed my Bala Shark was nowhere to be found. He was always the first to come get the food. I've had him since I had my tank (about 1 1/2 years).

He was a good size fish but I still can't find him. I looked all over (even out of the tank on the floor).......Nothing. He was too big to just disappear to where I can't find him. My husband thinks my Pleco ate him. But can he eat him that fast? He was one of my favorites. All my other fish are doing good. I checked all the readings and that all came back good.

Aren't Bala's supposed to live between 8 to 10 years? What could have happened to him? All my fish get along with each other.

Any suggestions?

A pleco wouldn't eat another fish. How big is your bala? They should really be kept in schools.

My bala was about 1 foot long, if not bigger.

Do you have lots of areas where he could be hiding under? Look for a skeleton ): He might have died and then the other fish ate the dead body

That would be my guess. Fish do make pretty quick work of the dead in a tank. Also, if you have snails, shrimp etc... they assist in the process.
