baiting snails

What have you successfully used to bait snails? How long did it take for them to take the bait?

I've never done it before... I noticed more and more popping up so I thought it's time to start collecting them to give to a friend who has puffers... I weighed some zucchini down (3 pieces), turned the lights out, and now I'm waiting... Is there a particular spot where they'd get the most attention? Against the glass vs. in the middle of the tank? Should I have left the light on? It's been about an hour and there isn't a single snail on any of the zucchini pieces. Should I just stop running to check, force myself to wait until morning?

I wish at least some would show up... I'm supposed to meet that friend for supper right away. Hmph.

I usually use one of those clips with a suction cup (cuke) place fairly near the top on the front glass....wait over night.......place your hand around whats left with the snails .or they fall right off to the bottom! Good Luck

+1 cucumber works 99.99999% of the time...

Ok I will try cucumber. As of this morning... there was one snail on one of the pieces of zucchini, so I'll switch it up! Although my friend has since informed me that she's got enough snails to last a lifetime because she's started keeping them in her betta tank and letting them breed there... so what do you do with snails when you're just discarding them? Flush them? Will they stick to the sides of the toilet and come out and attack me?

2 things here 1st i laughed my butt off over the last part of your post ....

2nd i would see if you can et a eal with a LFS to trade them in for a small amount and eventually use the value to get things you need... or post them for sale her or other places....

if you are intent on discarding them though i would freeze them instead of flushing not for fear of attach but think of all the nasty things in the sewer system including waste, chemicals, and other wonderful things... maybe i am just a big softy but the snail did not ask to be here and i am sure if it cold a slow and painful exit would not be on the wish list either...

Send them my way! I have trouble keeping up supply for my Clown Loaches! Believe it or not I actually have to PAY for these little gems who most people consider as 'pests'.

Despite having an entire tank devoted solely to breeding snails, I just can't keep up supply for these Clown Loaches and the problems begin then. Clown Loaches most certainly have their own special way of letting you know when they are not happy. The become bossy, take over the home of our BGK, don't make their happy 'clicking' noises and show aggression toward their tank mates!
