Bacteria question.

I understand there is probably no specific answer for this question. Roughly, how long does it take for a bacteria colony to form on a filter sponge placed in an established tank?

Diana Walstead says that after about a week bacteria are just starting to inhabit a sponge. This assumes a fully established tank.

If the sponge is placed in contact with established media, then it will be colonized significantly faster than if it had to start from scratch (new sponge in a new filter on an established tank).
