Yes, everyone seems to be clarifying exactly what I always thought about aquarium salt. I've never liked aquarium salt, but I never knew how to explain WHY I didn't like it to a customer with facts and evidence. Now I can feel confident in doing so. Most often the reason you see the cups of aquarium salt in small tanks holding many fishes at pet stores is to reduce toxicity on NO2 (nitrites) that often rise to dangerous level's in these crowded tanks with no biological filtration to speak of, Certainly not enough for number's of fish kept in these small tanks.
Many parasites are probably present as well, and the salt has benefit in this regard also.
Theyr'e Just trying to keep the fish alive long enough to be sold, along with all the other stuff they can convince you that is needed.
