Aquarium room is in gets hot/humid...

Hi all! My aquarium is about to see its first summer. The room I have my freshwater 55G in is very dark which has worked out great but I worry that on the upcoming 85-90 degree days, it will get so warm in here like it has in past years. I don't have central air, and the windows in this room are long and vertical and can not support an AC. Will a very warm room really warm up my water into a danger zone?

make a chiller ... ther should be plans in the DIY. most are basicly a computer fan with some slight mods ... if u know how u could build 2 or 3 on timers and indepented switches

I leave the lights off a lot in the summer because we don't have AC either. Especially with plants I try to turn them on at least for a few hours every night when it starts to cool down.

Sometimes I float a handful of ice cubes but this wouldn't be good for fish that are sensitive to temp changes.

Cool! Thanks. By the way, what temperature in a community fresh 55G is "trouble"? 85? 90?

90 is more of a trouble than 85. Make sure temperature does not exceed beyond 86. Most fish don't like too warm waters.

Age of Aquariums

I always have heard a waterfall will work. If you have a powerfilter then make it stand about 3" above the water. It should cool it about 5°F
