another tank!

got a little tank today for my fry. its only 25litres but will do for them to grow a bit more, once they have gone, im gonna get a dwarf puffer or 2! ive wanted 1 for ages:):):):) i have filled it with water from my existing tank, gonna leave it for 24 hours, then pop a couple danios in, is this ok?

No, unless you are cycling with fish, is that your intention?

There will be next to no beneficial bacteria in the water so the tank will need to cycle just like any brand new tank.

Right, you didn't say that but that helps!

Your call then, some people say cycling with fish is cruel others swear by it, all down to personal choice at the end of the day.

Im guessing that as the other tank is quite small as well you won't be able to pinch some media from the cycled tanks filter as there wont be much of it? That would help speed up the process and cut down the amount of time the danios will be living in unsuitable water

my other tank is 28 gals! but this 1 is ug filter so i cant do that
i cycled my first ever tank with danios and it worked a treat

wen i said, pop in a couple danios, thats wat i meant by using them to cycle lol, sorry should have worded it properly!

Yeah that won't work then, another one to add to the 'reasons not to use UG' lol

Cycling with fish works, no-one disputes that, its the conditions that the fish have to live in while its cycling thats the issue. As i previously stated its a personal choice though, good luck with it. :)

thanks mike. i hope i have helped by adding water from my existing tank, i have another 2ft tank arriving this week so will need to cycle that 1 too, my danios will b busy!

My lfs guy told me you cant "cycle" without fish, lol, so I dont know how people would do it without.
