Anglefish mated successful. Now what?

I know the Oto Catfish like to school to. That's why I got 5 but all died except this little guy. I waited a couple weeks got 3 more and they all died. I have no idea what to do with him. He seems pretty healthy on his own. He goes over everything at least once a day.

I had 5 otos at first and but 4 died. I waited a few weeks and bought 3 more and they died. I don't know what to do with him. He seems happy and healthy and he is always plump so he is not under few at all. I have no idea why other otos wont live with him.

They need an established tank for food, they are almost always wild caught as far as I know which means you also need to be far more strict with water pH and hardness (GH).

I've just heard that you need to have an ample algae supply for them.

Then why would only one thrive? The parameters are good, and their is plenty of food.

That is a good question. I have two tanks which I have put Otos in, and in only one tank will they live. They have died in the other tank. The water parameters are the same (or very very close) in each of the tanks, but I have no idea why they will not survive in the one tank. They were both fed the same diet, had maintenance on the same days, plants fed on the same days, etc. Good luck with that.....

They only eat a specific kind of algae, not any. One of their favorite foods is actually diatoms (what people mistakenly call brown algae common in new tanks).

They can also be convinced to eat vegetables like cucumber or zucchini.

Since they are wild caught, they're very sensitive to changes.

And.... have diatoms in both tanks... go figure
