Let me first pre-face this by saying....my whole day was a complete and utter, stressful disaster and by 6pm I had no brain power left and my thought process had gone out the window by 2pm.....i should have realized what I was doing at the time, but due to sunday being a horrible day.....again, severe lack of brain power....now, on to my story!
I have been looking around at all of my LFS for one of those "stop and fill, no spills" tank-to-sink pythons.....the one i need was around $90....the 25' wasn't quite long enough, next step up was the 50'....like alot of us...money is kind of tight and I just pulled a muscle in my lower back...it's pain just sitting in my chair right now....so I really needed that piece.....
I was at Lowes on sunday with my new wife looking for a new color to paint our bathroom, while she was stressing over "chef white" and "eggshell white" (I couldn't tell a diffence) I wondered over to the plumbing section.....after some deep thinking I was able to create a DIY of the python I was talking about earlier....I was simply going to keep my regular siphon....and I now I bought two adapters to fit our bathroom sink (the last end capable of fitting a garden hose)...I also picked up a 50' standard garden hose for about $9. All together the entire thing cost me $13!!!!! I was so proud of myself for saving close $80, and I told my wife the whole car ride home how she married the smartest man on the planet....lol
I got home,while I siphoned out the usual %30 from my tank, I started to put on the adapters, just as I was about ready to assemble the hose to the adapters on the sink....for some reason, never did it before...I read the small print on the back of the hose holder which in big bold letters read "
WARNING: THE HOSE CONTAINS CHECMICALS, INCLUDING LEAD, WHICH KNOW TO THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA TO CAUSE CANCER AND BIRTH DEFECTS, PLEASE DO NOT DRINK FROM THIS HOSE".....
I immediatly stopped assembling everything and continued to fill the tank, painfully, with 5 gallon buckets. I never read the small print, but I sure am glad I did because I fear the checmicals in the hose, though brand new would have killed the entire population on my tank....so always read the small print!!!!!
Thanks for taking the time to read my story. Figured maybe someone could use a break in their day....No fish were harmed....I'm returning the hose for a regular plastic tubing which I use to drain my tank! phew, that was close

PS - after reading that warning.....makes you think, how many times as a child did I drink from the hose in the backyard while running around??!?!?
