Algae Remedy

Hola TFK,

My 50G peacock cichlid tank is currently suffering an algae outbreak and I'm looking for a remedy that doesn't require chemicals (unless absolutely necessary). I've cut back on my lights to around 6 hours/day since cichlids do not require a lot of light and I have no plants in the tank but algae will adjust to any lighting setup so it's not a long-term fix.

There are currently 2 BN plecos in the tank and 6 peacock cichlids as well as 3 yellow labs.

Ammonia: 0 ppm
Nitrite: 0ppm
Nitrate 10ppm
Water Change: 1x weekly, 20%

In addition to light, algae needs a food source. Your nitrates aren't that high so maybe there's a phosphate issue? API has a product that adsorbs phosphates.
6 hours of light is still substantial. You may need a blackout of several days to starve the algae of light.
