75 Gallon Help

I ended up re-homing my two catfish so now I have a 75 gallon that is waiting to be filled up!

I'm planning to move my some of my fish from the 55 gallon up to the 75 gallon but I wanted some ideas on more fishes....

Most likely these guys will move into the 75 gl:
1 Opaline Gourami
1 Golden Gourami
4 Tiger Barbs
3 Cherry Barbs
1 Rainbow Shark....

The substrate is playsand, I do plan on adding plants, I have Hornwort and Anacharis growing out in other tanks

I want fish that will be active but are different (before someone says neons, heck no!)
Water parameters: pH 6.5-7.4 (city keeps screwing with the water), Hardness is usally 180 ppm

Congrats on the 75 gallon! I would love to have a tank that large someday!

On active fish I would say to add more fish to your Tiger Barb and Cherry Barb schools. They should have a bit more (7-8 in each school) for them to thrive in the tank. Tiger Barbs are usually very active and are very beautiful in a large school.

Originally had more tigers but they killed off a couple of them so their numbers went to four. As for the cherries, I'm looking for someone realible that sells them because they are special an I don't want to loose anyone.

Tangent: each of the fish on the 55 gl came from different parts of Texas where I competed in running competitions or they came from LFS owners I've befriended. The cherries came from Elgin and that's a 4 hour round trip, so it will take some time to get more.

Ah i understand. What killed the Tiger Barbs? Was it in fighting or was it something else in the tank.

I completely understand about your Cherry situation. My wife has two female betta and in trying to create a sorority for them I purchased two others from petsmart. Needless to say the two others i bought died a week after purchase.

The tigers bullied him, looked like they kept him from eating and he starved one night. He made friends with the Rainbow Shark, and he was pissed when his buddy died...he still terrorizes the barbs that refuse to school

I would definitely up the school of Tiger Barbs to at least 10-12. They are so much fun to watch and in a large group the individual bullying is greatly reduced. A group of loaches would be fun too.

I plan on upping the number to 8 Tigers and 6 Cherries

I would not recomend gourami and Tiger Barb in the same tank. The profiles explain why. The Rainbow Shark is fine on its own, and sometimes they manage with some of the Botia loach species, but if you plan on substrate fish aside from loaches it would be best leave it out.

I know about the nipping in the barbs but I got lucky and the have nipped at anything except the guppies or angelfish that have been with them....for now the gouramis are staying with the eel, the barbs and Rainbow Shark are moving....

I am looking at cories for substrate or kuhli loaches...what would a good centerpiece fish or pair be?

Back from the dead....

New changes have happened, the 75g now has these lovely fellows:

7 Cherry Barbs- 4 M 3 F
1 Peacock Eel
1 Betta

I'm waiting on my Kuhli Loaches....should be around 7-8 of them and a bumblebee catfish...
I still want something that is going to stay towards the top of the tank....

Only concerns are the peacock eel and kuhlis getting along with the catfish
