@cole: what you said does seem very logical and if it is easier and cheaper to boot sounds like a win-win. Can I mix the common females with the fancy ones?

yes!!!!!they are the same species fancys are just focused and bred for color that is y they are called fancys

I was reading this thread from the top, and I had guppies in my mind before you said it. I recently started keeping guppies, and I love them! Such a wide variety of colors! I would look at the site aquariumfish.net and seeing their guppies. I have used them in the past for fish, and I highly recommend them.

You might also want to check with your local fish store to see if they will take the fry you don't want off your hands. My fish store will take my normal guppies (I get nothing in return except help) and doesn't sell them as feeder guppies. They said they will take my dwarf panda guppies too and trade me out in fish or equipment (at a very low rate).

I use peat moss covered with sand. KH stays at 4 degrees and gh at 9.

With no peat moss in my tanks both rose to very high levels.

Tanks as also heavily planted, have a high ph (8.8-8.8 api high range test kit), use tap water, and no water changes, just top-off.

fish like neon tetras and Silver Hatchetfish reported to "require" ph of 7 or less lived for years in those tanks.

Granberry, thanks for the info about aquariumfish.net. I have been enjoying looking at all the pictures and such at that site. It does seem like a better bet then the LFS I have been to around my area.

Beaslbob, thanks for the information. I have not gotten into researching everything about planting my tank, but I will look into peat moss, per your suggestion.

FWIW I also use pro choice select (pc select) as a top layer. It's a red baked clay used in baseball infields. And only costs $8 for a 50 pound bag.

I took a look at wild fish they could get a lawsuit for a dangerous predator for sale the african tiger fish the golith tiger has killed peaple it is also commen for the reguler tiger to take off fingers they are so awsom with there fish selection they also have barricudas and very big dragon fish hahahah this is so fricken awsome man thanks for the site.

This could totally change everything we were planning. I might have the opportunity to get a colony of lamprologus multifasciatus with at least 4 breeding pairs along with juvies and fry for $25. Would this be a good deal and work with our hard water?
