I am not arguing with you, as this thread has nothing to do with me but the problem is that when the guys who run this site, who aren't just responding with their opinions (a lot of the info they impart is from respected literature and years of combined experience) read a thread that suggest something is wrong, be it an idea, or a current situation etc it is their responsibility to point that problem out. Whether that person wants to be told what they are doing wrong or not. How else can people, including others reading that thread also, be educated.
Just because a particular combination of fish, in a particular size tank has seemingly worked for you (in your opinion) doesn't mean it is correct, fulfilling for the animal and humane. If the info on those barbs is that they grow to 14inches, and need to be in groups of at least 6 in no less than a 7 foot 200g tank, I would take it that, that was the the kind of environment I would be needing to recreate for my chosen species. After all, the point of keeping fish is to house them in to as near a natural environment as possible.
Yes it is possible to keep one juvenile tin foil barb in a 10/20/30g tank or a tea cup if you like, but is it what's best for the fish? they were doing fine in the shop before you purchased them, and maybe someone with a 7 footer could have come along and saved them from a life stuck with their growth being stunted in a tank thats too small for them. (even in a 75g, or a 125g)
ultimately its up to you what you do, your the one that has to sit and watch the fish living an unnatural existence, so carry on. I have no suggestions for which other fish might work in your 30g. I just picked up on the attitude and though it an unusual response to a voice of reason.........
