29 gallon help

for the last cople of weeks ive been getting rid of all the fish that inhabit my 29 gallon(re-homed ,sold) as most if not all reqire much larger quarters up until a few weeks ago i had the larger quarters in the form of a 6ft long tank which was in the garage safely wrapped up in tarp awaiting the construction of a stand...which a couple of weeks ago to have been knocked over and smashed to which im blaming the dog

so without this larger tank and certainly without the funds to buy another of the same dimensions(i got the tank for nothing) ive had to get rid of all the fish
the only fish that i have left are a trio of silver dollars and these i really do not want to get rid of as ive had them since button size my problem has been that the min tank size recomended for dollars seems to be very erratic so my qestion is thus

can i keep my dollars in a 29g long or is it going to be too small?

IMHO a 55 gal. would be needed for a fish capable of reaching eight inches. Could they be kept in the 29 long ? probably with proper filtration and religous maint. Would they be comfortable? Were it me I would search for used 55 gal.
