2 Plecos and Tank size

I have 2 regular plecos and both are about 9 inches. I set up a 55 gallon tank for my son who loves fish and we were doing great so we put a nice pleco in and it has grown considerably. My father passed away and we had to take in the fish from his tank as well. So now I have 2 very large plecos in 1 55 gal tank and I am concerned about the life of the fish. We've had them for a couple years now but is that enough room? How can I tell if then need more room?

Common plecos can attain sixteen inches in length, and two such fish would in my view need 75 gallon's minimum,and vigorous filtration.IMHO

Agree. And, if both happen to be males, they may squabble. If one or both is female, this will (or should) be less likely, although the one that has been in this tank for 2 years may con sider the space belonging to him/her.

Lots of wood with tunnels or crevices large enough for either fish to get in/under will help. Pleco like to choose their "home" so having several suitable sites is best.
