2.5 gallon question and stocking

Hey everyone, about a year ago i gave my girlfriend a 2.5 gallon tank I did not use. I gave her two small guppies to stock it as well as the other necessities(filter, heater, decor, lighting). Anyway, after about 6 months the guppies died leaving two fry they had earlier. These fry grew for about 6 months and then one died. A few weeks later, the other died. Was the tank too small to support these two fish or could other problems be to blame? I do not have water params, but my experience with other tanks tells me they were not to blame. Any help would be awesome.

Also, since the tank is now empty what would you recommend she put in it?

You will need liquid test kits to be able to find out the exact cause. Smaller tanks have less stable water conditions in comparison to bigger ones which is why we always recommend buying the largest tank you can afford.

I'd simply stock it with cherry shrimps if it were mine.;)

I second Lupins suggestion for cherry shrimp. Or you could keep a mystery snail in there if you liked. I actually find the mystery snails very interesting to watch.

2.5g is too small for a betta, or any fish. There's simply not enough room for the fish to swim.
