You can check out a few of the different web sites for Auqatic Plant Enthusiasts (Yes theres one called that). Most of those people seem more interested in the plants than the fish, but they give great advice about planting.

10 gal is not huge but you definitely can have a cool looking smaller tank. There was a guy on another forum that has one of those ten gal "cube" tanks, mostly planted with mosses and one sword. It looked very nice. He had about 3 fish in it, but I think it could support more.

I've actually been thinking about setting up a ten gal planted as a quarentine tank for the bedroom (soothing bubbly noises for sleep) so when you do get your set up, I'd love to see pics!

You could maybe get a couple of Darters they like to cruise about the bottom....but they do like a current....

Im still congused about the 1inch per gallon rule 0_0 lol now im hearing that i can go over that rule! lol I have 2 ghost shrimps and 2 Platy and 3 neon tetras but im about to trade the neons. I think neons and cardinals have to be in a larger tank than 10 gallons.

There is NO SUCH THING as the inch per gallon rule.

All fish produce different amount of waste. For example, platies produce way more waste than neons. Neons are Cardinals do not need a bigger tank than 10G by the way. I have 7 in a 5G. Overstocked? Of course not.

And would you put a 10" Oscar in a 10G tank?

I have about 15 fish in my ten gallon, I do water changes twice a week. with good filteration. and they seem fine. all healthy. but it is a bit much for a ten.

I'd be careful with cories in a 10 gallon tank. In terms of body mass cories are larger than your average fish. A 2" cory is a much bigger fish than a 2" cardinal. If you do go with cories use the smaller breeds, like pandas, and go on the smaller side for their school.

In a ten gallon it's hard not to recommend a betta. I've got a male crowntail betta and a group of harlequin rasboras.
