Apistogramma cacatuoides is probably the most common species in the aquarium trade. Good looking fish, too. Your pH is near the upper end of what they'll tolerate, but if you're getting them from a local source with similar water parameters it shouldn't be a problem.

you need cement resin. you would probably have to mix some of the resin with cement and water and brush a thin coat of the mixture to the surface of the already dry cement. you can also add color to the mixture to make it look more natural.

Thanks for the reply, I was wanting to seal it with an epoxy or something so I wouldn't need to wait for the pH to drop but I've decided to just suck it up and do water changes for a couple weeks.

And I'll definitly check out the Apistogramma cacatuoides. The lfs I usually go to only has a couple Apisto's labled "Assorted Apisto's" (I'm guessing they're probably just mixes), but I know a place that probably has close to ever Apistogramma out there.
