What size sump should I use?!?!?

I am about to purchase a 120 gallon aquarium for freshwater Rare African Cichlids, I have been looking around on Google for the answer to my question of: How big of a sump should I use for this aquarium for Maximum water flow age, Filtration, the whole deal?? I don't need skimmers or any of that stuff just a simple sump, with bio-balls. Also can I have an estimate of how much this may cost me if I were to build one, including prices of PVC, the whole works. And one more thing. If anyone has plans for the sump that I am in search of I would greatly appreciate it if you could let me in on your designs :):)

Thank You
:D

If you want to build a sump, you might want to post in the DIY section.

I wouldn't use a sump. Why put out all of the expense when you can put together a layered system and have money left to spend on fish? just think out loud.
