what do you think of this tank?

I am fairly new to the hobby but am looking into getting a larger aquarium. I found onee on craigslist that seems like a great deal. Just wanted some expert advise. Not sure if it comes with filter/pump/heater. The guy is checking and will get back to me. I am wanting to do an A.Cichlid tank. How many could I keep in this tank and if it doesn't come with pump/filter what would you recommend?

The link isn't working right. "the guy is checking". Meaning he doesn't know what he is selling? That's a red flag for me. If the seller doesn't know exactly what he has but is selling it I'd stay away. Just my 2 cents

Honestly it's a decent price. But it's 54" high. That's way high. Almost 5 feet high unless he is measuring from the floor to top of tank. Even if that is floor to tank top and not the height of the tank the pic shows us it's still a tall tank. Height in a tank doesn't do much unless you're going to do Angel fish. They prefer higher tanks. Wide (LtoR) and depth (front to back) is where you gain surface area which is better than height. I don't know. If it was me I would keep hunting. I don't like real tall tanks. But that's me. Especially at cleaning and water change time. Who wants to stand on a stool to get in the tank? Not me.

hmm... I didn't realize the surface area made a difference. I am wanting to do some African cichlids so this might not work for them? Thanks for the advise. I am just anxious to get one but don't have a huge amount to spend right now:)

Idon't know much about Cichlids. Here is a link for you to get started on some info. A Guide to Cichlids: the beginner :: FishGeeks :: Tropical fish - Marine Fish - Aquarium Fish - Pond Fish - Aquatic Plants I do recommend that you do as much research in all aspect of the hobby and don't get in too big of a rush. Patience is key. It'll pay off in the long run.

I agree with Eric, unless you're looking to keep angel fish (which you said you weren't) I'd keep looking...you'll find a steal...my dad just picked up a 125G tank with a stand for $125!!!

keep lookin!

That looks like maybe a 37g tank. $50 is a great price, so if you've got the room for it...

I'm a terrible influence, aren't I?
