I just bought a Stealth visitherm. About how long do they last? They have to stay completely submerged to function properly, right?

They're supposed to turn off automatically if taken out of the water. Better to just do it yourself in my opinion as that's only supposed to be a safety feature.

My 200W was a fluke. I've got a 100W that's been running for almost 8 months, a 25W running for 2 months, and a 50W visi-therm deluxe that's at least a couple years old, all work just fine.

If you have a timer like the one in this link http://img.villagephotos.com/p/2005-1/938834/timer.jpg you can plug it into an outlet and plug the heater into that with a time limit on when the heater runs. Try to have it run during the night to right before the sun rises.

I had a visi-therm deluxe that ran over 10 yrs before the glass got broken. I hope the stealths are as good.
