Using peat moss

I apologize in advance if the information I'm looking for is listed somewhere in this forum, but I couldn't find it.

Can anyone help me with specific instructions on how to use peat moss in a filter to help lower pH? Is this the same peat moss one would purchase in a garden-type store, or is it something specific for aquariums? How how much do you use? Does it need to be treated or prepared in any way first? Is it put in something before adding it to the filter? How long will it last/should it replaced regularly? What else should I know? I hope these aren't stupid questions...

I have a filtered tank in a very warm room with a goldfish and 3 zebra danios. My pH is 8.2. Ammonia, Nirtite, and Nitrate are all good (0,0 and 0-20).

Thank you.

personally I use granulated peat for ponds. usually I tend to use this in a water aging container outside the tank but ive been known to but some in a filter bag and add it directly to the filter. In that case it doesnt need any advanced preparation and I just use whatever amount will fit. It does need to be replaced after a period of time (not sure on the time frame it could actually last...i change mine out about once a month) because it will eventually break down and release everything its absorbed from the tank at once. I'll check here and find where I've posted about this before and let you know.
