Tap Water Conditioners

Just curious what you all are using to treat your tap water, and what you think about them.

Are they all the same? Currently I use a dechlorinator by wardley called Chlor-Out. Its very cheap but does not claim to remove nitrites/ammonia (however, my tap doesn't have nitrites/ammonia -- right?). How important is it to use a conditioner that "stimulates the slime coat" of fish? What is the best conditioner for a planted tank?

I also use aquaplus by Hagen as my favoured conditioner.

Prime by Seachem .... my tapwater has ammonia in it (.25) right out of the tap and a 6.2 ph. I would never have thought that my tapwater had traceable ammonia ... but low and behold, it does. I'd recommend having tap water tested, just so you know what your "base" is.

I use a double dose of NovAqua Plus and a Double Dose of AmQuel plus. I am told that in my area you cannot possibly use too much water conditioner, between the chlorine, the cholramine, the sulfur, ammonia, copper, nitrates, and assorted plausibly deniable byproducts of officially non-existant goverment projects. That combination gives me water that my fish really seem to like. The NovAqua takes care of the dissolved organics, the Amquel takes care of the metals and sulfur, and the two of them take the halides out.

I used to use Tetra Aquasafe, but have since found that API Stress Coat is much better value.

i use prime
