how about using the angle iron or similar for a center brace and using off the shelf glass lids and strip lights, the lids would be slightly elevated to the degree of the gauge of the material, but this could be remedied by adding a spacer of equivalent thickness at the other ends

I tried that on my 110g, but even with the plastic strip on the back it was several inches short, front to back. That might be a viable option for a 125, though. They dont have the variance that the 110s have for some reason :)

I figured I'm gonna go along the lines of a light weight canopy. I will also added 2 braces on the lip of the top frame, cause there seems to be enough room to placed small harware (Screws, nuts, and bolts. to secure the braces. I will also figure out away to have glass, plexi or acrylic cut to size and have that sit on top of the tank. The glass or whatever cover will help with the evaporation of the water, and the canopy will be easier on the eyes. So thats where I'm at with the top and canopy situation.

Oh I plan to. I know other have questions regarding this. I will be doing the glass/plexi/acrylis top first, and then the light weight canopy.

Whats going on man. Same here, got a great deal on my 125 from a family friend. I havent got everything set up yet, due to the fact I am moving here soon, but I'm getting everything in order for right now. As for filteration , I got a very good deal on that too. My friend is giving me 3 hang on the back filters, and I also bought a used Marineland Canister c-530 from a Aquarium shop owner where I live. I've already built my acrylic lids to help with evaporation, but I am going to start bulding the Canopy for the the tank. Thats everything I have so far. Working on the lighting situation as we speak. Go SOX!!! I wish we were way more active in this offseason than we really were, but we shall see how the years turns out. Hopefully we do not have a bust month like last Sept.
