So you stick the vac into the sand or just above it? I was worried that it would suck up the sand, but I notice that my sand is heavier than the poop and such and the sand seems to fall right back down the tube. I wasn't sure if I should be shoving it into the sand??

You don't need to stick it down in the sand. You just want to suck up what's laying on top. Some trumpet snails as mentioned can help keep sand sifted. :)

The most important medication in your fish medicine cabinet is.. Clean water.
