Sterilizing bio-media

I am starting a new set-up for aquatic turtles, and will be using a large "saltwater type" biofilter(with coralife bio-balls). The last time this filter was used the animals had an infectious shell disease that I would obviously like to avoid this time around. Would it be ok to sterilize with a bleach solution or should I boil all the media? Additionally, there are the bubble reducing sponges that would either need to be replaced or sterilized. They are rather crumbly as it is, so I'm leaning towards replacing them. No idea where to find replacements, however. The only tag on filter says "Aqua-Crylic". Are they still around? Any info or advice would be great, and much appreciated.

Well I don't know what is considered the correct way to sterilize them but if it was me, I would pour a bottle of alcohol over them and then pour a pot of boiling water over them. Pretty much takes care of anything that might be on them IMHO. Bleech will work to, maybe 1 cup in a sinkful of water then rinse thuroughly and then fill the sink agian and treat with dechlor to make sure all the bleech is neutralized.

I would keep the actual filter, clean that out with hot water...bleach...alcohol...and simply replace all the media, if it were me.
