Salt in freshwater aquarium

Salt in freshwater aquarium. Please give me your opinion. I have never used it, but all of my local pet store say they use it.

Salt is basically used only for fish who'll need brackish water conditions during the adult stage. That applies particularly to scats and figure-8 puffers.
It can be used for emergencies like ich outbreak and some fish who benefit from salt(although not necessarily) like mollies.

Your lfs is giving you advice to put salt in a tank with different fish(whether tolerant or intolerant of salt) which is wrong.

I have to add that some plants will not tolerate salt(which the site has also mentioned-but in different term ).
I'll add this one for reference.

And more importantly, the last paragraph of the site here.
Quote:
Important: Because of the potential hazards to the health of your fish and plants we do not recommend the use of salt in freshwater aquariums. The intent of this article is an objective look of the effects of salt and should only be viewed as a discussion about the topic.
