My H.O.T. Magnum 250 has developed a very "touchy" on/off button. It's starting to really bother me so I'm going to upgrade to a newer and better HOB. Can I get some recommendations from y'all as to which make/model is the absolute *bomb*? Not interested in a canister as that type of filter won't work with my set up. (My tank has a built in wet/dry, the HOB is only for extra filtration and water clarity).
Thanks!!
(Forgot to add: Byron, in case you're reading this you know it's a planted tank. The HOB is the first filtration system point, followed by the wet/dry. The water movement is only "slighty" affected by the HOB since all filtered water is expelled through the long row of filter "holes" along the bottom back of the tank. Hope I explained that well enough so that it makes "sense")
I fear I'm partial to the Emperor series by Marineland but If I had a second choice ,it would be the Aquaclear. Only reason I don't use the Aquaclear filters is because I have eight of the Emperor filters and I keep saying ,that when one finally shoots craps ,, I'm gonna try the Aquaclear. Darned Emperor's won't quit.
Emperors would be my choice. Although I can't wait to set up my new tank so I can try out the Aquaclear that came with it. Just have to finish painting the bedroom so I can get it set up!
Emperors fsho. However, they do require regular maintenance, as the intake and output slows over time and the biowheel sometimes doesnt get enough water to relly do its job. So you need to clean the impellers like once a month and clean out the intake every once ina while.
That's just part of my routine. I pull the impeller and wipe it down each water change and use my siphon hose to blast out the intake tube. No big deal.
Oh... >.> Well when i was usinga aquaclear, i cleaned the impeller maybe.. once every 6 months... and for the Emperors i had to do it every month, but the water, imo, looked cleaner with the Emporer.
*Shrug* To me its an inconsequential amount of work. If I had to scrub the entire filter every time I might put it as a negative. Swiping the impeller down, barely worth mentioning.
I have learned that the Emperor series has been slightly redesigned, and no longer has a flow control, so my commments regarding flow control do not apply.
