Quiet 55g filter- Bio Wheel Q's

I have a Marineland Penguin Bio Wheel 350 Filter for my 55g gallon. It cleans it very well, it is just incredibly noisy! Are there any quieter filters? Or is there something wrong with mine? It runs fine and keeps everything really clean, it's just very loud, and it's very forceful and moves the water a lot. Is this normal?

I am sorry to say but Marineland's suck. The best and quietest HOB filters are the Aquaclears, virtually silent..

Is it the motor that makes the loud noise or is it just vibrating against the tank?

Animal testing is a terrible idea; they get all nervous and give the wrong answers.

The only thing I can suggest is to clean out the impeller area and give the whole filter a good cleaning. It could also just be a crap motor.

I have had 0 problems with my penguin filters, and id buy more tomorrow. I like aquaclear too, but my marinelands have been the most trouble free filters ive owned. they certainly dont suck. Mine has been less problematic than my aquaclear. Im guessing if its noisy it has debris in or around the impeller as has been suggested before. As for it being so forceful, its rated at 350gph. Thats alot. If you want less flow buy a smaller filter

I should add, that you need the outflow to be somewhat forceful or the biowheels will stall when they get gunked up over time.

Thanks for the help everyone. After some research online, my water levels were simply too low. The filter's quiet now.
