Power loss and a canister filter

What happens to the canister filter if my power goes out and there's no backup? Am I going to end up with water all over the place? That's my biggest fear. My husband would kill me!!!

If the filter fails all that will happen is the water supply will stop pumping out and will stop pumping in. It will not leak anywhere.

Yes, there is nothing to worry about if the power goes out with leakage (as the tubing on canister filters usually make a complete loop), but you do have to worry about an ammonia spike.

If power outages are common in your area you could consider a UPS (back up power supply). If you only hook up your filter to it you may not need to get a very huge one to suffice. That way when your power goes out filtration goes on!

This is my recommendation, but then again, I live in an area that is prone to power fluctuations to include brown outs and power spikes which UPS' help with.
