Is Play sand good for fish tank use?

I went to the hardware store and bought some sand. Is that okay to use in my fish tank? If so how much? The tank is a 30 gal. hexagonal tank.

Thank you

You can use play sand in fish tanks. you just have to rinse it very very well. i have even heard of many people using it for saltwatewr tanks. You just have to be carefull because its so fine and it will compact over time.

I would recommend if using this sand, to give it a good rake through with a plastic fork every week when doing water changes - this will help stop it from compacting. :)
