painting tank decorations?

I am setting up a cichlid tank and want to have a white and black theme. My substrate is black, slate stones are black, limestone (honeycomb) rock is white, and I have a blue peice of decor that I want to paint white. Is this a terrible idea, or if i give it plently of time to dry, blah blah, will it be ok?
