New Eheim Canister

I am soon going to be purchasing an Eheim Ecco filter and just have a few questions. My tank is a 28 gallon bowfront, and my first question is, should I get the one that is made for up to 35 gallons, or the one that goes to 60? And my second question is, how would you recommend break the new filter in, as I am deffinately not going to get rid of the other one and just throw the new one on, as it is not cycled, should I just run them both for a while?

Thank you all in advance :D

I have 3 mollies, 6 neons, a gourami, 3 threadfins and a butterfly fish. and am just hoping to put a mate for the gourami, also I am taking out the butterfly fish once I get my other tank set up.
