marina betta kit

I'm new to bettas, got a male with the marina betta kit (1/2 gallon). At petsmart he was the most active betta, but has become immobile, spending most of his time sitting underneath the plastic plant on the rocks. He wouldn't eat initially, but has recently developed more of an appetite!

He's been in his new environment for 1 week now. I want him to be happy (and healthy), but don't have the space for a 10 gallon (or the resources). I just assumed that the betta kit was actually meant for bettas to live in. Any thoughts? Will he really die of boredom?

Welcome to Fishforum.com, Ac.

Any pictures of your tank? The minimum tank size we often recommend for a lone betta is 3-5 gallons. Smaller than that often renders water conditions as more unstable than larger tanks. What is your temperature? Water parameters? Use API liquid test kit for best results. Check ammonia, nitrites, nitrates and pH. Also, I would suggest doing water changes every other day by 30-50%.
