Well, from my understanding it doesn't reduce he flow at all. I was looking into buying Eheim ETH for reef tank but I didnt want to many cuts/connections that could lead to potential leaks.

According to websites like marinedepot and fosterandsmith, there in no minimum or recommend flow rate. I think the water flows relatively straight through without compression. However, the slower the rate, the more contact it will have with he heating element warming your water faster (logically speaking)

My guess is that the head loss is more of a problem than losses going through an heater, there can't be that many things in there that will block the flow.

Flow rate won't change a thing as to the efficiency of the heater, it will always be at 100%. Slower rate means the water exiting the heater will be hotter, and you don't want that. Better have a lot of water going throught it so there is not that much of a difference between inlet and outlet water temperature.
