A few weeks back, my 4ft light fixture had a bulb explode. It burned the clear acrylic cover and shattered my glass lid (no fish were hurt despite there being glass in the tank). It just lived past it's warranty, but what caused it to go and do something like that?
The weird part, is that I put on my back-up 2ft light and that one straight-up died within a few days(this one being a tad older).
They were both using an automatic timer. Do you think the timer flipped out and killed the light fixtures somehow?
I've been using my crawdad's light (he doesn't mind the darkness in the slightest) and just borrowed my brother's (the crawdad's light fixture is around 15 years old (seriously) and the other one is maybe 4 years old).
Has anyone else had a bulb explode on you before? I removed the timer and banished it to never be used again and the other lights have been working just fine, despite the fixtures being significantly older. The timer was pretty old but had been working fine for two years.....
I just... Don't know. :/
(4 ft light was a Marineland, 2ft light was an Aqueon)
