Convert it to a screw in fixture and buy the expensive led bulbs... hardly practical though, there is no actual easy method of installing leds, it involves basic electronics skills and math to provide the right amount of power to the leds. Your best place to start is to google "DIY led light system design" to start learning about it and figure out how to scale it to your project, and remember most leds people use aren't good enough for a planted aquarium and require the right spectrum extra high wattage leds that don't come cheap.

Yeah I could do it. I've wired moonlights before, but it would hardly be worth it for daytime lights. A lot cheaper and easier to just stick with the T8 or switch to a CFL. For the electronically challenged you can buy extremely overpriced LEDs that are setup in a T8 bulb fashion and can be put in just like a regular bulb. KInda defeats any purpose of saving power since your ballast is still running then the electronics in the bulb need to reconvert the power again to run the LEDs off it. You could try cheap cold cathodes, but again its gonna be hard to reach the intensity with cold cathodes or LED that you get with flourescents.
