well yes, i have stopped i haven't used salt in years, yay!
and just an update on my corys, i started treating them today with praziquantel (reccomended by Lupin as the safest med - i trust his advice haha)
they are scratching even more now. they ate some of the residue from the dissolved tablets - hopefully it hasn't hurt them. on the packet it said the residue was just cellulose and wouldn't hurt the fishies. i am keeping an eye on them. according to lupin's treatment schedule, this treatment is going to take over a month! patience...patience.

lol i don't have much patients either hahaha. good luck with the cory's and you can't go wrong with lupin.
i guess the meds are speeding up the cycle that's why they scratch a lot more then last time.

speeding up the life cycle of the parasite you mean? why would that make them scratch more?

it is embedded in the skin or gills of the fish, causing irritation (with the fish showing signs of irritation) speed up the cycle and you get more irritation =) the parasite grows and feeds on red blood cells and skin cells. After a few days it bores itself out of the fish and falls to the bottom of the aquarium.

a bit like ich?
i kind of don't think there would have been time for the flukes to grow enourmously. the fish started acting up the moment i put the med in. i forgot to mention they ate some of the white residue from the tablets and i thought that could have been irritating them. but i was talking to lupin on another forum and he thought they just got a bit worse and it had nothing to do with the treatment.
anyway this is the second day of treatment, i strained out some of the white stuff before tipping the water with the dissolved tablets in it into the tank. the corys seemed fine this morning - still had flukey symptoms, but not as bad. i'm keeping an eye on them to see if they go weird again. i'm starting to think maybe they just went into shock from the meds - i wouldn't be surprised if they'd never been exposed to medications before.

wait... talking to lupin in another forum? which one??? i've been in to many.i see names i know but can't really know where are they from.isn't he on this one?

maybe your right but keeping an eye on them is a good thing =) i do hope your fishes get well as my tank looks like it's gonna get dossed too =s i don't keep cory's in there but they are showing sings of ich.normal for young tanks it seems.maracyn will sometimes cloud the water.they were on melafix for nearly a week.some are ok some look like they have fungus =s so i guess were in the same wagon.

heres the other forums i've been on: Treating with praziquantel
best treatment for gill flukes?

your going to have to go the second page on the second one :P i have posted so many threads on here its hard to keep up...

i think i'm going to have to euthanase my angelfish, he's on deaths door but my mum wants me to keep him alive. which is kind of pointless - hes just lying there in the hospital tank, cant swim cant eat...he'll die eventually anyway. it seems cruel. plus i kind of feel having a half dead fish next to my main tank is sort of casting a curse on it or something, haha. i guess i just hate seeing him like this.
