Hey, I got a lil X-mas $ so I decided I want a Canister filter for my 36 gallon. I look at them at the store and I dont know what a good one is. Basically I want something bullet proof, a simple well thought out design, cheap and easy to maintain, places to put carbon or whatever else I want, and minimal on the expensive proprietary crap. I am not into bells and whistles just somthin quality that does what it needs to. suggestions appreciated.
I use a fluval for my 46 gallon. They can be a bit pricey but the fluvals got little baskets for any filter media of your choice and you can customize ur filtering anyway you want. Its quite easy to maintain and its amazingly quiet.
keep an eye out on www.craigslist.com in your area, you can also post a wanted ad
