I plan on putting one of these on my twenty gallon tank. I've had a stock aqueon twenty power filter in it for nearly a year now. I'm wondering what should I do to prep the new filter to put it on? Should I possibly put strips of the old filter material in the new filter to start with?
That would be an excellent idea. Try and utilize everything you can in terms of getting the new filter capable of colonizing bacteria quickly. When I have gotten new filters I make sure I use some of the existing and established bio media in the new filter and even old filter floss that's real dirty and full of bacteria. I just throw it in the new filter and let it run; really helps with cycling a new tank.
Seems like aquaclear is getting quite the reputation. I love aquaclear and I have used most models. My favorites are the big 110 models. I loooooooove the big waterfall.
Top fin 40...=/ It's so loud and messy comparatively. The aquaclear is much nicer in terms of set up...so easy to change the filter pad and ceramic...I don't use the carbon and haven't for a long time. I may ditch this top fin here soon and get another aquaclear...Im currently running both filters.
Aquaclear is an excellent product. Their filters are top notch and customizable thanks to their design and not using cartridges of any form. I still prefer the Marineland filters with a biowheel but I wouldn't get rid of an Aquaclear if someone gave it to me.
