I was wondering about this myself. I am thinking, I wonder if my husband will ask this question if the fish tank obsession continues and I end up with more than two tanks. The lights for live plants will be more too. We have winters here and our house during the day is usually set at around 63-64 if I am in the house and 60 if I am out in the shop all day and either 59 or 60 at night. So, I am sure out fish tank heaters are coming on quite a bit. I guess all I can do is try to cut back on energy in other wasteful areas....leaving lights on when not needed, and making sure I always turn the heat down when I go out to the shop....sometimes I forget.

Your figures help me get a ruff estimate. Thanks!

Holly, lights, SPECIALLY if using CFL's is neglectable lil even in big tanks.
Just calculate it, get all wattage off of your equipment labels, Example of my 55g:
Filter Eheim 8W * 24hrs/day operation = ((8*24)*30days)/1000) = 5.76 kwh/month
Heat 200W * 12hrs/day operation = ((200*12)*30days)/1000) = 60 kwh/month
Lights total 60w * 12hrs/day operation= ((60*12)*30days)/1000) = 21.6 kwh/month
Totals 87.36 kwh/months @ $0.08613 (kwh price locally) = $7.5
