Well i picked up a free heater from a friend who got one with the thermometer like in it, its wierd. but the heater he gave me was a whisper, and theres no controls! its just your standard glass heater with the little red dot and above the glass theres plastic that just says whisper, no nobs buttons or anything likewise ANYWHERE on the thing

as long as its big enough for the tank,it'll work.i have 2 of those(Tetra) in 2 different 10g that work fine, temp is 76-78 always ,the range they give you for those heaters is 76-80 so mine have worked great for months.
they have a little red indicator light that lights up when the heater is actually heating
