How to clean a one gallon tank with an under gravel filter?
It's not that I can't figure out how to clean the tank, because I have cleaned it, but this is my first under-gravel filter and I'm wondering if there is a better way. When I set this up I used fully cycled gravel and water from a larger tank that the betta was in. This is only a 1 gallon tank, and I been changing out 1/4 of the water every few days, and decided it was time to give it a better cleaning. I removed the betta and snail to a cup, siphoned most of the water and then dumped the gravel into a large bowl. I ever-so-gently rinsed the gravel with treated tap water (just enough to get the gunk out of it without actually cleaning it) and cleaned the plastic piece that sits under the gravel, and the sides of the tank. I then put everything back in with fresh water, and added my betta back in with the cup water.
Is there any better way? It takes longer to clean this tank than my 12 gallon!
