Heater

I finally got the filtration system in my new 92 gallon tank functioning (so many trips to hardware stores *sigh*) so I am starting to fill it with water and begin the cycling. The problem is that I realized that the heater I orginally bought was too low wattage for the tank (and $30 overpriced). I just placed an order for the correct heaters that I will need, but they won't arrive until the end of next week at the earliest. I have a used 75 gallon tank that I bought fully equiped including a heater. I realize that it is too low power to completely heat my tank, but could I use that heater to at least keep the water warmer and start the cycle whilst I wait for the correct heaters to arrive?

You should. Just realize it will probably be on all the time. What brand and wattage is your other one?

This is the song that never ends...

Why don't you plug both in until the new ones arrive? Otherwise the heater for the 75G should work just fine.

By the way, the watts per gallon thing is highly dependable. I had two 250 watt Jager heaters in my 86 gallon tank and they were keeping the thing WAY too warm even though they were set to 74. I finally took one out and the single one set to 76 keeps my tank at a nice 78 constantly (and I take my temp from several areas and depths). I keep my house at 65 too cuz I'm cheap about human heating, so it's not like the room temp is very warm.

Thanks, I'll stick it in the tank when I get home.

Okiemavis- The two I bought are completely submersible (which the other wasn't) and combined were $20 less than the one I returned. If anything, I'll have a spare in case the 92 or 75 gal tanks heater breaks.
