The glass on my tank lid broke. Can't find replacement..Please help!!

So today the glass part of my lid/hood broke. This is the hood I have:


So you can see the hood part which has the light in it. That part is NOT broken. If you take the light hood off, it leaves the flat part with the hinged door. It has glass on top that the light box sits on top of. That is the part that broke. The whole entire hood/lid/light package is like $35 which is retarded. And just the light box is $30 which is that part that is NOT broken. All I need is the bottom lid/glass part (everything but the light box) but I can't find it anywhere. Can someone please help me as to where to find it?!

I have never seen them sale just the part you are looking for. Just the whole hood with light or just a light. If you don't want to pay that much check out craiglist and see if you can find one cheaper.

There is nothing on craigslist or anything. I just need to stupid part that the light sits on that has the hinged lid. The only thing I have found is this: Aqueon Versa-Top Hinged Aquarium Cover at PETCO

Both pieces are glass with a hinge in the middle. The other part is made of a rubberish material that you can cut to fit filters/heaters behind.

Take the measurements to a local glass store, they should be able to cut you a piece out of some scrap material for pretty cheap, then just silicone it in. If no luck there go to hardware store and pick up some acrylic and cut to size, just make sure your light doesn't get to hot and acrylic will bend over time with enough heat.

Zof is right. I recently went to a mobile glass place, and had a piece cut for $12. Even homedepot will make a rectangular cut for cheap. Silicone it or even just lay it over the hole (of course you need to cut a piece just a bit larger than the opening. Easy stuff.

That's right on. But bring the hood with you to the glass shop! They should take the measurements themselves! They're much more experienced at it than we are, and if they take the wrong measurements its on them.
IME- For under $3, a local glass place cut a new piece of glass to fit and removed the old shards. I then took everything home, scraped out the old silicone with a razor scraper, cleaned it with alcohol, let it dry, laid a bead of !00% silicone in a caulk gun, placed the glass, and let it cure for 48 hours. Pretty stinking easy. And WAY cheaper! You can do it!

Pretty sure those plastic tops you posted just have a little plexiglass window in the center... not actual glass. If it is/was glass though just replace it with plexiglass.
