Fluval Prefilter and BioMax

Hi all, I'm new to the forum. I have a 20G with a Penguin 150 filter, and I wanted to add ceramic rings to the bottom of my HOB for extra biomedia... I accidentally bought Fluval Prefilter at the LFS today but meant to buy Fluval BioMax. I believe they're both made of ceramic--do you think I can just use the prefilter, since it's only for bio purposes?

I think you really want something made for bio purposes. The prefilter is made for mechanical filtration. I'd return it and get what you wanted.

technically they're two very similar products. However, the biomax have very rough unrefined cylidners that will hold more bacteria. The prefilter is smoother and designed to just be in the way of larger chunks of garbage going through ur filter. Exchanging for the biomax is a better than keeping the prefilter.
